Iron (II) glycinate (Ferrous bisglycinate), folic acid, lactoferrin-bovine.
Description
Each capsule contains: Iron (II) glycinate (Ferrous bisglycinate) 92 mg Equivalent Iron 24 mg, Folic acid 500 mcg, Lactoferrin-bovine 50 mg.
Iron: This is an essential mineral which is an important component of haemoglobin, the substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to transport it throughout the body. Haemoglobin represents about two-thirds of the body's iron. Iron also plays a role in many important chemical reactions in the body.
Folic Acid: It is an essential nutrient that is a part of the vitamin B family. Folate is needed to form red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body. The most important use of folic acid is for the development of foetus. It is vital that women in early pregnancy have enough folic acid, as it can help reduce the risk of spinal cord defects, such as spina bifida. It helps in the development of the foetal nervous system, as well as DNA synthesis and cell growth.
Lactoferrin: Lactoferrin is one of the transferrin proteins that regulates the absorption of iron and delivers it to the cells.
Indications/Uses
Zifam Lactofer combines Ferrous Bisglycinate, a bioavailable form of iron, with Lactoferrin, which helps increase iron absorption. Iron is necessary for the formation of haemoglobin, which transports oxygen to tissues. By combining Ferrous bisglycinate with Lactoferrin, Zifam Lactofer provides a better bioavailable form of iron supplement, which may assist in the management of dietary iron deficiency.
Zifam Lactofer also provides a daily dose of 500 mcg of folic acid which, if taken daily for one month before conception and during pregnancy, may reduce the risk of women having a child with birth defects of brain and/or spinal cord such as the neural tube defects known as spina bifida and anencephaly.
Zifam Lactofer may assist in the management of dietary folic acid deficiency. The Iron and Folic acid in Zifam Lactofer can also assist in maintaining normal blood.
